Standard 7: Micro-political Leadership
Principals will build systems and relationships that utilize the staff ’s diversity, encourage constructive ideological
conflict in order to leverage staff expertise, power and influence in order to realize the school’s vision for success. The
principal will also creatively employ an awareness of staff ’s professional needs, issues, and interests to build cohesion
and to facilitate distributed governance and shared decision making.

On November 2, 2019 I attended the Durham Public Schools Magnet and CTE Pathway Fair at Southern School of Energy and Sustainability. This fair allowed the community to learn more about the wonderful educational opportunities for the children of Durham. My primary responsibility was to speak with families and talk with them about the DSA arts concentrations areas and answer any questions they had. These conversations with families allowed me to articulate DSA's mission, vision, and unique school culture. I was intentional about highlighting the following items: the diverse collection of arts pathways students have to choose from, DSA athletics, the numerous master teachers we have on staff, and the many options DSA students have once they graduate from high school. In addition, I also had the responsibility of documenting attendance for any student volunteers.
