After applying and receiving a grant ($500.00) from the DSA PTSA, Assistant Principal Jones and I used the attached document to request funds. These funds were used to ensure that the DSA Advisory program had access to resources throughout the 2019-2020 academic year. This experience taught me how to manage school funds through proper documentation and communication with the DSA PTSA.
Element 5b. Conflict Management and Resolution:
The principal effectively and efficiently manages the complexity of human interactions so that the focus of the school can be on improved student achievement.

I used Educators Handbook to document and process Office Referrals. This online tool allowed me to document the details of an incident, select an offense, and assign a action. Throughout this process, I used my Crucial Conversation strategies when communicating with staff, parents, and students. I was intentional to ensure that these conversations ultimately focused on student achievement by reviewing the student's current grades and attendance data. These data points were helpful in communicating to all stakeholders that my main priority is to help support the student in making better decisions so that they can successfully return to the classroom.
Element 5c. Systematic Communication:
The principal designs and utilizes various forms of formal and informal communication so that the focus of the school can be on improved student achievement.

Throughout my Principal Residency, I primarily used email to communicate with staff. This is an example of a thank you email I sent out to staff after the NCSU Cohort visited Durham School of the Arts. I was always intentional about making my emails short and clear in order to respect the time of the staff.
Element 5d. School Expectations for Students and Staff:
The principal develops and enforces expectations, structures, rules and procedures for students and staff.

I worked Assistant Principal Don Jones to put together this document which clearly illustrates the DSA policy in regard to tardies for the 2019-2020 academic year. The school then converted this document into posters which were placed strategically around the DSA campus. This experience taught me how to be intentional about designing processes and procedures that are easy for staff and students to follow and that builds a culture where students will avoid being late to class.
